Blue skies

with 4 comments

We live a few minutes from London Gatwick, one of the UK’s major airports.  Although we are not in the flight path, and noise is very limited, we can see the planes landing and taking off and the skies around us are criss-crossed with vapour trails.  With the ash clouds from Iceland still causing havoc in UK airspace (at least this far south), this is the view toward Gatwick this morning from our back garden: no clouds, no planes, no vapour trails, no noise.  Beautiful.

  1. I really, really am pleased for you…but I need a flight to Leicester Monday coming! Praying for a change of wind for a few days anyway!

    • Hope you make it, brother, and look forward to seeing you, God willing.

  2. Jeremy, I can relate to this very well as I am living just a few miles north of you in Bookham, Surrey. As the crow flies (not much else flying at the moment, ha ha!) this is almost exactly half way between Heathrow and Gatwick and we have been enjoying the peace and quiet and clear skies too. I do, however wonder at the power of the anonymous authorities who can bring most of europe to a ‘flight’ standstill over such a matter and yet have so little counter-reaction. In my opinion there is more to this than meets the eye.

Anyway, at the risk of going off topic, may I take this opportunity to thank you very much for your blog and all the encouraging information and posts you make. I have been reading you for some time now and have taken much encouragement and pleasure from the quality of your writing. I, for one, will be ordering you new book on Paul as soon as the UK edition is available. May your ministry and your blogging continue to be truly blessed by our Heavenly Father in Jesus Christ.

    • Hello, Nicholas, and very many thanks for your kind words of encouragement. It is always good to hear that some of this work is appreciated. I hope you will not be disappointed with the book.

As for the clear skies, despite the inconveniences (including to family and friends), I smile as a servant of the God who can act at once so unobtrusively and powerfully, and demonstrate his mighty and majesty. When we read of the wonders God has done of old, and perhaps wonder if he would or could still act for his people, does this not count as a wonderful testimony to his ability to accomplish all his designs? Our God is in heaven; he does whatever he pleases.

By all means, consider chipping in . . .
