As I walked through the wilderness of this world …

If Carl Trueman organised conferences . . .

Carl offers some radical thoughts on marketing and conferences for those who might wish to be truly countercultural. Having done so, he offers the following conclusion:

Ok, we all know none of this is going to happen. But it should, if we are really serious about both providing good conferences for people to attend and not encouraging the celebrification of the church. And, of course, reflecting on why it won’t happen might in itself be a very instructive exercise.

To read the intriguing build-up to this, go here.

An afterthought: do you think those of us both unknown and incompetent should offer ourselves for the next T4G or TGC, the Master’s Conference, the Desiring God jamborees (is that a real plural?), and other megaconferences? What fun could be had! Would we prove Carl’s point?

  1. I’m quite sure that many, many good preachers ‘out there’ would be a blessing to most conference attendees.

  2. Well, in response to Carl’s statement, “we all know none of this is going to happen,” I can tell you that we have accepted Dr. Trueman’s challenge. The 2012 Banner of Truth U.S. Ministers’ Conference will be promoted without reference to who the speakers will be. We have long agreed with this opinion, as can perhaps be seen in our annual “line-up” of speakers. Therefore, we will promote the conference as three days of solid, soul-nourishing refreshment, intimate fellowship among like-minded men in ministry in a smaller conference setting, and singing beyond belief … all regardless of whether you recognize the name of the man in the pulpit, or not!
    Thank you.

    • Cool. It will be interesting to see the outcome. Keep us informed, if you can. It will be interesting to see if the names of the speakers can be kep quiet in the build-up . . . I look forward to the rumours!
